If you’re from Cincinnati, chances are you’ve stumbled upon Charley Harper’s art more than a few times. The zoo barn, the Homecoming bluebirds downtown, the Peck Federal mural, or the abstract tiles at the Duke Energy Center are just a few examples of public displays of Harper’s art.
Author Michelle Houts and Brett Harper, son of Charley and Edie, will be a the Blue Manatee to talk briefly about Charley’s life and art and to sign copies of COUNT THE WINGS: THE LIFE AND ART OF CHARLEY HARPER. Written for ages 9 and up, it’s the first biography of Charley ever written. Filled with photos and art, the book is geared toward middle-grade readers, but it’s so packed with Harper facts and history that adults will find it an interesting read as well.
