Want to Write for Kids?
People often ask me: “How did you get started writing for children?” Several organizations/websites have been very helpful in my journey to becoming a published author. If you are among the hopeful, the place to begin is:
SCBWI is the most incredible resource and a great community with which to be involved. Check it out.
Michelle conducts several workshops each year in Ohio and neighboring states.**

WRITING FOR CHILDREN: WHERE DO I BEGIN? - I recommend this one-day workshop if you’re just beginning to seek answers the questions every new writer asks: What are the genres in children’s literature? How do I know where to send my work? Do I need a literary agent? What is a literary agent? What’s a query letter? How do I know if my story is ready to submit? This all-day workshop is held in my 1894 one-room schoolhouse studio. The limit is usually about 20 participants.
PICTURE BOOK REVISION RETREAT – During this weekend retreat (2 nights), participants bring a draft of a picture book manuscript and take it through several exercises to tighten, revise and get it into shape for submission. This retreat is held at various inns/B&Bs and is limited usually limited to 8-10 participants.
NEXT SCHEDULED WRITING FOR CHILDREN: WHERE DO I BEGIN? July 2017 at Michelle’s one-room schoolhouse near Celina, Ohio. Registration has not yet begun. Please email Michelle for more information.
NEXT SCHEDULED PICTURE BOOK REVISION RETREAT: Fall 2017 or January 2018 – Stop back soon for more information! (Or email Michelle and tell her to get it gear and schedule a retreat!)
